Stop Finding Out Too Late
If you’re discovering job losses after close, your system isn’t working. I fix job costing and reporting so you see it in real time.
Start with a quick check of your contracting business.
6 questions. Honest results. No fluff.
If any of this sounds familiar, we should talk:
• You think a job was profitable but you can't actually prove it. WIP, change orders, and retainage are spread across QuickBooks, a spreadsheet, and your project manager's inbox.
• You're growing fast and your books haven't caught up. Job costing is "kind of" set up. Certified payroll is a Friday afternoon scramble.
• You've outgrown a bookkeeper but a full-time controller is $150K+ you don't want to commit to.
• You're applying for bonding or a credit line and your books need to be clean enough to show a surety or a bank — fast.
• You hate month-end. You'd rather be on a job site than reconciling.
• You've been burned by a generalist CPA who didn't understand prevailing wage, AIA G702/G703, or how retainage actually works.
Who I work with
Built for contractors between $500K and $10M in revenue.
What I do
Fractional Controller Services
The core of my practice. I run your monthly close, deliver job-level P&Ls, manage cash flow forecasting, handle certified payroll review, and sit on monthly calls with you to talk through the numbers like a partner — not a vendor.
Best for: contractors $1M+ closing multiple jobs per month who need real-time visibility, not a year-end report.
Engagements: monthly retainer starting at $1,500/month.
Construction-Specific Accounting
Job costing structure built right the first time. AIA billing workflows. Certified payroll for prevailing wage jobs. Subcontractor compliance tracking (W-9s, COIs, 1099s). Retainage receivable and payable schedules. Done in QuickBooks — done correctly.
Best for: contractors who already have a bookkeeper but need someone above them who actually understands construction.
Engagements: bundled into a fractional controller retainer or scoped as a one-time project.
QuickBooks Setup & Cleanup
For contractors whose books have been "kind of working" for a while. I rebuild the chart of accounts for job costing, fix categorization issues, reconcile back-dated periods, and hand you back a file you can actually run a business from.
Best for: contractors who haven't had clean books in 12+ months, or who are switching from a generalist bookkeeper.
Engagements: fixed-fee project. Most cleanups complete in 4–8 weeks.
Project-Based Engagements
For contractors not ready for a monthly retainer: bid review, job profitability post-mortems, financial cleanup before a bonding application or bank loan, or one-time WIP schedule preparation.
Best for: contractors who don't yet need ongoing controller support but need senior-level help on a one-time deliverable.
Engagements: fixed-fee. Scoped on a 20-minute call.
Controller-level work. Fractional cost.
Most contractors who need a controller can't justify a $150K-$200K hire. So they hobble along with a part-time bookkeeper, a generalist CPA who shows up at year-end, and a knot in their stomach about whether the numbers are right.
I built my practice around a different model. I use modern accounting tools, automation, and AI-assisted workflows to run controller-level engagements at a fraction of full-time cost.
That means you get:
• A licensed CPA reviewing your books, not a bookkeeper learning on the job.
• Monthly job-level reporting you can actually use to bid better.
• Faster month-end — usually 3-5 business days, not 3 weeks.
• Direct access to me, not a junior staff accountant.
• Secure, encrypted file sharing and read-only QuickBooks access — your data, your control.
• Same deliverables a $200K controller produces. Without the headcount.

"I’ve worked with Lena for several years on both my personal and business taxes. She explains things clearly, answers questions without rushing, and always makes sure everything is done correctly. She’s patient, responsive, and very organized, which gives me peace of mind every tax season. I trust her with my business because she genuinely cares about accuracy and making sure everything is handled the right way. I’d recommend her to any small business owner who wants a reliable CPA they can actually talk to.
